After a three-year long hiatus, the TBC reemerged on November 8-10 at the Hyatt Regency SFO in downtown Burlingame, California. The event was the first in-person opportunity in a long time for many attendees; there were also quite a few first-time attendees. Both are very encouraging developments. It seems that the world is slowly starting to open up and folks are getting more comfortable traveling. Gradually, things are resetting “back to normal” after the pandemic.

With his opening words, “It’s not where we are headed but how fast we will get there,” the boss of all things NonStop, Jeff Kyle, set the tone for the latest NonStop Technical Boot Camp (NonStop TBC 22). “We are a platform and not a server; the platform we are perfecting for mission critical applications. We create the data and we transact the data!”

HPE NonStop Pathway is a mainstay of today’s mission-critical systems. It implements application scalability by distributing workloads across dynamic pools of application server processes (serverclasses) that in turn are spread across multiple HPE NonStop server CPUs. It offers high levels of application availability by monitoring and automatically restarting server processes in the event of failure.

NonStop TBC 2022 kicked off a new round of modernization with a friendly competition to come up with a sustainable design to replace SCOBOL requesters with the latest and greatest tech available on and off NonStop.

Data replication is at the center of the HPE Shadowbase product portfolio. It is important to monitor and correct data in order to detect and resolve improper behavior, ensure continuation of proper business operations, and comply with audit and regulatory requirements.

Believe it or not, on Friday March 4th and 5th SunTug happened – live and in person! The two-day event included a full presentation agenda, catered meals, a happy hour and of course the annual golf outing.

Janice Reeder-Highleyman, 69, passed away on January 2, 2022 due to a long illness. She was intensely private and never wanted to talk much about herself. Most of us in the Connect Community had no idea that she was bravely battling Stage IV ovarian cancer.  And, she didn’t want much of a fuss made after her passing.

This article highlights some interesting work from Gravic Labs, Gravic’s Research and Development group, in the area of increasing the data integrity of mission critical systems. The article expands on our talk at The Connect NonStop TBC meeting in October 2021, and is a continuation of the topic that we presented in the July/August 2017 issue of The Connection.

In my previous article, Thinking of Migrating During a Pandemic?, I wrote about how impressed I was with the different IT initiatives and buzz of activity that increased from the pandemic. Situations like this pandemic truly highlight how much we all take technology for granted, and how interwoven our lives have become.

On an HPE NonStop system, this transaction log is maintained by the HPE NonStop Transaction Management Facility (TMF) subsystem, and is known as the TMF Audit Trail (TMF AT). Data managed in this way by TMF are known as audited files, or audited data (conversely, non-audited-files and non-audited data).

We are truly amazed by the number of IT system migrations that are now occurring around the globe! We see a surprising trend: IT teams honing their focus on new features while ramping up business continuity improvement projects, which is an inspiring and strategic move.

One of the most critical aspects of data replication performance is latency, and the two most important types are replication latency and application latency.

A large European steel tube manufacturer ran its online shop floor operations on an HPE NonStop Server. To exploit the currency and value of this online, trapped, and siloed data, the manufacturer periodically generated reports on Linux Servers using a customized application and connectivity tool that remotely queries the online NonStop Enscribe database and returns the results.

A major U.S. merchant provider operates a major payments transaction authorization switch – to several million small to medium-size businesses throughout the world. The merchant processes payment authorization for Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, and other major credit and debit card client companies. The cards are issued by banks and other financial institutions for consumer purchasing at brick-and-mortar and online stores, and for withdrawing cash from ATMs. Each card transaction must be approved by the issuing bank before it can be accepted by a merchant or an ATM.
