Cool technology! When did we last hear about that? Well, the world is changing. Customers are looking for “solutions,” use them and “pay by the drink.” “It doesn’t matter what’s underneath” is the oft-repeated phrase or so it seems. Well, really?

My recent change consulting work has taken me to the mergers and acquisitions world. Now I don’t know about you, but I can’t imagine a greater transformational change for team leaders than getting acquired by an industry giant. Not only is there culture and strategy change, but also a myriad of systems, tools and processes that either need to be learned or integrated.

If you have been around the NonStop platform for any length of time, you know how influential the platform has been with respect to the evolution of money.

In the Sept-Oct 2021 edition of The Connection, we gave an overview of Kafka, and how it is being used by many Fortune 500 companies to manage “streams” of data, which have become prevalent as internet usage massively boosts the amount of data being generated, and requiring processing. Kafka allows these huge volumes of data to be processed in real-time, via a combination of “producers” and “consumers”, which work with a Kafka “cluster” – the main data repository.

Andy Bergholz, if you remember him, had sent the team off for some virtualization training and just asked “Could NonStop be virtualized”? “No”, “Never” “Of course not” “Why”? But then, as Andy suspected, there started a lot of “Well, what if…” conversations and in just a little while they had booted NonStop under OpenStack. That’s the way great leaders get things done

Karen was born on July 30, 1961, in Tucson Arizona. She was an outgoing and naturally curious child. From a young age she was interested in art and loved animals. As the oldest of three children, she was a fierce big sister and very protective of her younger sister and brother.

Well, it was very nice to actually attend a User Group meeting in person. It seems like it’s been forever. SunTUG 22 seemed to be pretty well attended. Kevin Shabow, the North American Director of NonStop Sales, kicked off the conference and asked for direct feedback from the audience. This harkened back to the origins of ITUG when Jimmy and execs would have open forums about what was needed, what was working, and what wasn’t. Jimmy always mentioned how very valuable direct customer feedback was to him and the team.

For anyone who has ever ventured into the surf rolling onto a beach, the presence of waves as they fade on the sand is obvious. They just come at you one wave after the other, or so it seems. It was during my last track outing when a tornado approached. I was giving a ride-along to well-known NonStop salesman, Jim Miller, when the whirlwind approached. Unfamiliar as I was with the forces tornadoes can unleash, I was more curious than anxious.

Real-time data replication products, such as HPE Shadowbase software, are well known for their ability to facilitate IT service availability (Business Continuity) by replicating production data in real-time across multiple systems to create backup database copies. Should one system fail, current, consistent data is available on alternate systems which can take over processing, thereby maintaining service availability. But such products also provide another significant capability: a heterogeneous Data Distribution Fabric Backbone (DDFB), which facilitates data integration.

Red Link is the biggest transactional switch in Argentina, processing transactions from ATMs and digital wallets. Red Link is owned by a group of public and private banks that service most of Argentina’s population. Red Link processes more than 47 million transactions per day during their peak time of year. They are interconnected with 60 financial institutions and have more than 1,000 employees, with a large team focused on the HPE NonStop, as it is the primary system used for their transactions.

Greenlake is a major HPE strategy. You may have seen the announcement “The cloud that comes to you”, which is essentially Greenlake.
