XYPRO: Confronting Inaction in the CyberSecurity Industry

Steve Tcherchian

2020 was another troubling year in the cybersecurity world. We saw a repeat of 2019’s data breaches on a larger scale. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Nintendo, WaWa and many more fell victim to some sort of compromise. Hardly a week went by where we weren’t reading about a new mega breach or ransomware attack.

Why You Should Not Ignore NonStop OS Upgrades

Ron Wetzel

How long has it been since you upgraded your NonStop’s operating system? One year? Five years? Fifty years? You have no idea? Don’t feel embarrassed if you answered anything but “A.” You’re not alone. Many companies that operate within the NonStop environment have chosen not to upgrade their OS for a variety of reasons. Even though NonStop was designed to withstand the hardships of running continuously for years, it still needs to undergo routine OS upgrades just like any complex system.

An Overview of Artificial Intelligence and NonStop

Justin Simonds

Alan Turing OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) FRS (Fellow of the Royal Society) born 23 June 1912 and died 7 June 1954 was an English mathematician, computer scientist, logician, cryptanalyst, philosopher, and theoretical biologist, or what we would call today an under-achiever.

2020: An Unprecedented Year at NuWave

Gabrielle Guerrera

When we write up our end-of-year reflections at NuWave, we usually look back fondly on that year’s tradeshows and user group meetings around the world, the friendly faces we’ve seen, and the boisterous dinners with partners, customers, and friends in the HPE NonStop space. This year has of course been vastly different from previous years, with little face-to-face interaction of any sort. The year has not been without its bright spots, though.

NonStop in the Himalayas

Gopalakrishnan Muthusamy

Remember Himalayas servers? Himalaya was a project name for NonStop Servers sold in the early 1990’s. The connection between the Himalayas and NonStop was established then, and today the Himalayas are still very much part of NonStop, as a lot of NonStop development is happening in “Himalayas land”, in India, at Bangalore.

Non Stop Trends & Wins

High-Performance Computing (HPC) also known as the technology required for Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) is getting even better.  I have a great interest in this and if you’ve seen some of my AI presentations I show a low-latency NSADI link between NonStop and the HPE Apollo HPC systems.

NonStop Forward
by Phil Ly

Phil Ly

With cyber-crimes increasing at an alarming rate daily, securing and protecting enterprise data is a top priority for all organizations. NonStop has long been touted by users as the company’s “crown jewel” for overseeing mission-critical applications, so it should be a top priority to protect NonStop applications and its content. That being said, it is important for NonStop users to avoid using custom solutions that might create the misconception that the platform is non-compliant and/or legacy.

It is with a certain amount of sadness we have to announce the retirement of Neil Barnes from the NonStop Community. Ensuring Data Privacy and Security

Trevor J. Morgan

In the amorphous field of cybersecurity, data privacy is a pretty hot topic, especially in the HPE NonStop space considering the vast amount of personal, sensitive data processed on NonStop solutions across the globe.

The ABC’s of an Affordable Business Critical Compute

Richard Buckle

We have always heard the role of NonStop described as being best-suited platform where 100% uptime is mandatory; where the customer’s business cannot tolerate any exceptions; where nothing can be allowed to interrupt the works of the solution and where the application’s failure means the customer’s business fails.

Improve Compliance with File Integrity Monitoring

Henry Fonseca

File integrity monitoring (FIM) exists because change is inescapable for most organizations. From variations in a company’s hardware assets, software programs, configuration states, permissions, and personnel, it is the one constant within IT environments. Some of these modifications may be authorized, while others will cause concern by their unexpected nature. Because of this, FIM is considered a vital requirement for security compliance frameworks to help identify unexpected or malicious activity across critical system files and protect business assets.

A Note From Connect Leadership

Marty Edelman

August 2020, where to even start…  As I write this note to our community, things in the US are still uncertain vis-à-vis Covid-19, but I know as a community, we will continue to thrive and do great things! HPE had a virtual Discover event that was pretty well received, things are still in the planning stage for the NonStop Bootcamp, and I am sure we will have a great event no matter what format it will be. We have also had a few great NonStop virtual events, so things are continuing, abet in different formats.

News from HPE’s NonStop Division

Prashanth Kamath U

We’re in a new world, “new” in more ways than one. The biggest change is the social norms and people interactions. Not sure how long it’s going to last. Some say “this could be a lasting change” but I do hope that’s not true. Human perseverance to improve lives have always won over crises that threaten to take us backwards. I do look forward to see that happening this time again!

NonStop Trends & Wins
by Justin Simonds

Justin Simonds

Well we at HPE continue to work from home.  I was doing that anyway so my only change was never going out.  When I do I’m complying with mask recommendations and washing my hands often.  My youngest son is worried about me, which is very endearing.  He always offers to do the shopping but every once in a while you just want to pick your own peaches.  I never appreciated a trip to the store so much.  I’m sure everyone has their own stories to share and hopefully, we may be able to share them at the Bootcamp but we are still waiting to hear if that will be live or virtual.
