News from HPE’s NonStop Division

Dear NonStop Community:

Welcome to another issue of The Connection Magazine.

What a wild summer it’s been! Planning product events are not for the faint of heart in a pandemic world! The news has changed day by day with resurgences in the COVID-19 Delta in some parts of the country while others seem to have very few cases being reported. Simultaneously companies like HPE are setting new rules for entering their buildings and what type of events employees can or cannot attend.

This year’s NonStop Technical Boot Camp was scheduled to take place in person in Denver, Colorado but due to increases in COVID-19 Delta infections and new company rules about how to navigate events during this time, we were forced to pull back and change to a Virtual event again this year. The conference is still two and a half days, starting Tuesday, October 5th with a Keynote in the morning, breakout talks, demos, dev chats, SIG meetings and panel discussions during the day. We expect a similar agenda on Wednesday, October 6th with Thursday, October 7th is scheduled for a half-day conference ending around lunchtime, with a free four-hour Seminar in the afternoon for anyone who wants to learn more about the new Security monitoring product XYGATE Security One. Keynote speakers for the show are a number of leaders from the NonStop business and HPE Community. On Tuesday, Jeff Kyle will talk about the NonStop business and David Lambert will give a general talk on GreenLake. On Wednesday, Kevin Shabow, our new sales leader for North America will talk followed by Neil Davis, our sales leader for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Breakout talks will be made available in the virtual On-Demand library after the event.

Meanwhile, in this issue of The Connection Magazine you’ll find a number of interesting articles related to Managing Data and Databases. From an article on Data Architects featuring Greg Hunt with his motorcycle from and Odyssey Information Services to Gaye Clemson’s look back at the management philosophies at Tandem Computers which laid the foundation of how NonStop people operate even to this day, to Richard Buckle’s article on how the data explosion can be managed using NonStop SQL/MX. Also this month is an article from Andrew Price, on uLinga for Kafka and how customers are using it to solve business problems and a nice follow-up article from comforte about the benefits of comforte’s SafePoint Logstream product from Thomas Gloerfeld. XYPRO has submitted an article that aims to demystify GDPR, an interesting read, as well as an article about Database Security in the payments industry and how protect your business from database attacks. Hagop Abousefian wrote an article about his experiences with Virtualized NonStop, while Phil Ly, president of TIC Software and Dave Belliveau from NuWave have joined forces to deliver an article on the benefits of using a REST layer in your application. Gravic Inc has provided an article about Shadowbase Compare and how to move data to solve various situations. We round things out with an article from our own Frans Jongma, from the ATC (Advanced Technology Center) on SQL/MX DBS and new trial interfaces to provision, request and extend databases which is now available to try out in the ATC. Email Frans if you are interested at Frans.Jongma@hpe.com

We hope you enjoy this issue of  The Connection Magazine and the upcoming NonStop TBC. We expect to give some updates from the event in our next edition. Meanwhile, we wish everyone a successful and lovely Fall – a time to close deals, rake leaves, eat pumpkin soup, drink hot chocolate and share a crisp apple.

Take care and stay healthy!
