ALWAYS ON

One of my favorite HPE NonStop slogans is ALWAYS ON. A close second is on a shirt from a long ago NonStop event – PICNIC (problem in chair, not in computer). Since I am not a computer programmer and don’t usually answer technical questions, I think these two phrases are succinct in explaining the importance of using a fault-tolerant solution in mission-critical environments. As a consumer, I consider every interaction in daily life with a computer mission-critical!

In getting ready for NonStop TBC, I came across some restaurant gift cards I bought in December of 2019. They both included a freebie with the gift card purchase, with a deadline for use. You know how much our world changed soon after that new year… I immediately threw away one of the gift cards – that restaurant didn’t survive 2020. The other restaurant survived with government assistance and a steady take-out clientele. I checked its balance: $3.14.  I threw it away too, thankful that it served its purpose while we had family in town for the holiday.

One thing that didn’t change in 2020 and consistently serves its purpose is the HPE NonStop System. It is always on!

We recently acknowledged another occurrence that changed the world on September 11th. That’s a date many of us remember attending the 2001 ITUG in California. The shock of destruction and loss of lives was significant. And yet, the NonStop System was always on. The many stories of Disaster Recovery Centers suddenly coming to life will always stay with me.

My other computer is a HPE NonStop Server

The recent Crowdstrike glitch in July affected approximately 8.5 million computer systems in the ‘largest outage in the history of information technology’ and lost companies at least $10 billion plus the trust of consumers and businesses. While I was thankful we weren’t flying anywhere that weekend, I confidently trusted that fault-tolerant NonStop Systems were not going to be affected.

Companies using NonStop Systems all over the world are also confident in BlackWood Systems’ MOMI. Our Performance Monitor and Operations Utility is always on, running quietly in the background gathering data using MEASURE and other sources to help troubleshoot and diagnose your operations. MOMI keeps History data, sets thresholds for alerts, requires no set-up or coding to look at running programs and processes and has no privileged interface code. MOMI is mindful of security needs and requires logon to protect sensitive operations. The MOMI Client Access feature limits the availability of MOMI screens to defined users. Not only is MOMI saving companies thousands of dollars on their system monitoring, but it also requires no special training to operate! All MOMI questions are helpfully answered by BlackWood Systems developers.

Happy Glden Anniversary to NonStop memorabilia BlackWood Systems proudly honored the Golden Anniversary of NonStop Systems at the TBC! While significant worldwide occurrences have caused change in our lives, the value of ALWAYS ON NonStop Systems cannot be understated. It cultivates trust and confidence across all industries and BlackWood Systems is gratified to be a 25-year part of that rich history!
