FS Compare and Repair Delivers Continued Performance Breakthroughs, Business Value
In particular, our blazing-fast FS Compare and Repair product was a highlight among the attendees at the recent NonStop event. The solution offers advanced block-level hashing technology that is capable of delivering the fastest, most scalable file comparison and repair capabilities. The solution can process 128 MB per second per partition, and 1 TB of data in 10 minutes.
With this offering, customers can validate and repair large volumes of NonStop data, significantly reducing operational downtime and enhancing data integrity. FS Compare and Repair works with all NonStop files and tables, including Enscribe files, OSS files, and SQL/MP and SQL/MX tables. The solution can process multiple partitions in parallel.
FS Compare and Repair can be employed in environments in which a production server is being compared against a disaster recovery system. In addition, the solution offers support for active/active environments in which updates need to go in both directions.
Today, customers are using the solution to achieve these results:
- Compare more than 18,000 files across production and disaster recovery environments.
- Compare and repair a 1.5 TB SQL/MP table that has more than 300 partitions.
- Perform zero-downtime migrations, loading a new table with new partitions and key ranges—without taking the application offline.
Customer Success: Global Technology Firm Achieves Dramatic Performance Gains
FS Compare and Repair continues to be proven in demanding customer environments. For example, a global technology firm used the solution to achieve significant reductions in data comparison and repair cycles.
Background: Growth Leads to Excessively Lengthy Cycle Times
Over the course of decades, the firm grew to become one of the world’s leading suppliers of personal computers, servers, storage environments, and more. Throughout that time, the company continued to be highly reliant upon its NonStop environments. As their data volumes and infrastructure continued to grow, it took increasingly lengthy cycles to ensure their production and disaster recovery environments were in synch.
Initially, they used an enterprise software vendor’s data-comparison and repair tool. While the solution is billed as being high performance, the reality was that it was taking 12 weeks to complete a full comparison cycle of all their production data. This meant that data could be out of synch and it may take up to 12 weeks to discover that there was an issue. Most critically, this meant that if a failover to their disaster recovery system occurred, they may encounter data integrity issues.
FS Compare and Repair to the Rescue
After a survey of the solutions available, the team selected FS Compare and Repair. The TANDsoft solution offered the high scalability and performance that they required.
FS Compare and Repair is architected and optimized for running on NonStop systems, and it offers block-level comparison functionality that yields optimized performance and throughput. In fact, the solution offered 12 times better performance than the team’s prior tool.
Instead of 12 weeks, this meant they were able to complete entire comparison cycles in about a week. Now, if out-of-synch instances are discovered, repairs are done immediately. As a result, if any failover requirements arise, the team can have complete confidence that their disaster recovery instances will be in synch with their production environment. FS Compare and Repair is just one of the solutions TANDsoft provides. At the recent NonStop event, customers were particularly interested in the FS Bundle, which features FS Compare and Repair and FileSync. FileSync is our pioneering replication and synchronization solution. FileSync employs a block-level approach that offers speed and scalability. The solution automatically monitors, replicates, and synchronizes all files across all nodes.
