Redbanc, a central pillar of Chile’s financial ecosystem, operates one of the largest ATM networks in the country. By facilitating interbank ATM services, Redbanc enables customers of different banks to access cash and check balances and conduct other essential banking transactions nationwide. In addition to ATM services, Redbanc manages transaction processing for debit and credit card payments at POS terminals, securing and streamlining financial interactions across Chile. With an increasing demand for robust and scalable digital payment solutions, Redbanc needed a solution to enhance availability, streamline costs, and maintain strict security standards.

Redbanc required an infrastructure upgrade that could support its extensive, transaction-heavy network. Its current systems needed a reliable, scalable, and secure solution to handle increasing transaction volumes and ensure compliance with Chile’s stringent financial regulations. With digital payments rapidly growing, Redbanc sought to enhance interoperability, reduce transaction delays, and improve the end-user experience.

Solution

To meet these demands, Redbanc started a collaboration with Google in January 2024 when they signed a strategic partnership agreement to modernize and optimize their services offering to the financial market in Chile.

Their transactional core is based on the HPE NonStop solution. As the technology has evolved over the years, Redbanc is willing to continue with the HPE technology but with a substantial upgrade: moving to the Cloud. OmniPayments has helped REDBANC in this journey with professional and consulting services based on the Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) solution and the virtualized HPE NonStop system. This platform, specifically designed to support business-critical applications, provided Redbanc with a highly available, scalable, and secure infrastructure built on Google Cloud.

Compiling process time decreased by 10x; a typical build of one of their switch environments was very time-consuming; thanks to the new solution, these times were dramatically reduced.

Scalability enables Redbanc to seamlessly adapt to growing demands without service interruptions or delays, ensuring fast and secure transactions across the entire network. With the virtual solution, adding a new VMware ESX node or increasing CPUs, storage, or network capacity eliminates shipping delays and the costs and time associated with datacenter implementation.

Security is a top priority for Redbanc. Built on Google Cloud’s secure platform, OmniPayments VNS provides advanced fraud prevention and cybersecurity measures, safeguarding ATM and card-based transactions from potential threats. Redbanc can now ensure regulatory compliance and secure processing for all interbank transactions, promoting trust within the Chilean financial sector.

Triple redundancy to protect from hackers

Redbanc was looking for a way to protect itself from hackers and wanted to implement a 3rd node on a separate platform. Redbanc turned to OmniPayments to implement the 3rd node in a Google public cloud.
