There is a lot to be cheerful about as this time of year rolls around yet again. As this issue of The Connection goes to press, there will still be those celebrating Thanksgiving. In North America, this is a time when families gather and it can often become a Thanksgiving week. Halloween is behind us, while still to come is Christmas and the New Year! You may as well call this the cheerful quarter, as I am sure that is the way many within the NonStop Community will view such a festive time.
Being cheerful is one way to view the outcome of NonStop TBC 2024. This year’s conference in Monterey, California was special in that there were milestones being celebrated. Tandem Computers and what is now better known as HPE NonStop Systems, celebrated fiftieth year. In the world of technology this is unique as HPE NonStop, nee Tandem, is one of only two platforms – the other being the IBM Mainframe – to be active participants in enterprise IT and as such, reminds us all that surely, it must be doing something right!
There was a focus at this NonStop TBC on what’s new. What is new for NonStop systems, what is new for NonStop customers and even, what is new in audience. The HPE NonStop teams in AsiaPac and Japan have to be congratulated for bringing with them a sizable cross section of their communities to this major annual NonStop conference. Hopefully, this is a sign of improving impetus behind ensuring even greater NonStop customer and prospect participation in the future.
The theme of what’s new with NonStop also influenced NTI’s participation. NTI dived into what’s new for the company and our product portfolio – yes, there was new messaging and new products, new partnerships and new customers – but covering these topics is what attendees expect when attending any NonStop TBC conference. With such a theme under the spotlight, there was much to cheer.
Pursuing modernization, delivering on resilience, providing a broader scope of platform options – the slate was full when the NonStop team took to the stage. Keeping up with the rate of change taking place across the NonStop development teams meant the NonStop vendor community had to work hard to keep up. And we at NTI were pleased to deliver alignment on all counts.
This year, NTI followed our high-level marketing presentation with an in-depth examination of how well we met a customer’s needs to migrate from Oracle GoldenGate to NTI DRNet®/Unified. Delivering a timely migration well in advance of competitive offering’s pursuits, not only fueled the development of a new DRNet®/Unified product – DRNet®/Unified for GoldenGate Conversion – but it added a “new logo” to the NTI customers list.
New products and new customers represent the cornerstone upon which messaging can be created. It is also the opening gambit in a more ambitious program to work with other NonStop vendors not just in sales and marketing but in cooperative development as well. In part, this was a topic covered not only in the marketing presentation of Tuesday but also by the technical organization directly engaged in helping this latest addition to the NTI customers list modernize their operations with DRNet®/Unified. Introduced by Tim Dunne, NTI’s Global Director Worldwide Sales, and delivered by Trevor Hill, EMEA Solutions Consultant, this technical session obviously generated its fair share of “cooool!”
While being cool is something we can all cheer, recognizing that simply by being cool something is going right and being right and winning, well that is worth a cheer. But as cheerful as we may be, being cool can only carry any vendor so far. You need substance along with whatever it is that could be considering cool and in the push for modernization, support of open-source and industry-standard APIs, services and utilities become a must.
Following the introduction of DRNet®/Unified for HPE Customers, support of Kafka was introduced and alpha and beta tests followed. While the product delivered on the promise of Kafka interfaces, NonStop customers wanted much more. Turning to the authority on all thing’s protocols and services, Infrasoft, NTI has integrated uLinga for Kafka into its latest product offering, DRNet®/Kafka.
Fully tested and ready for deployment with the key component of bidirectional Kafka support in final test, this represents just one more of cool steps taken by our NTI team. Turning to specialists while remaining focused on the Change Data Capture (CDC) properties of DRNet®, brings new solutions to meet growing customer requirements represents a smart move on our part. There’s no question that no vendor can do it all and in working with Infrasoft, NTI is simply following the earlier steps taken with TANDsoft to bring even smarter utilities to NTI’s customer base.
“We have established a relationship with the Infrasoft team whereby the rapidly evolving Kafka needs of our NTI customers can be addressed in a timelier and more robust manner. In the coming weeks there will be further product updates that will be announced,” said Tim Dunne, NTI’s Global Director Worldwide Sales. “Among the likely candidates for participation s part of the DRNet® product suite is Infrasoft’s uLinga Gateway where the potential to accelerate application integration is something that no doubt generates further cheering from the NonStop community.”
Noticeable at this year’s NonStop TBC conference was the sizable banner greeting everyone who entered the partner pavilion – Save Time! Save Money! Save NonStop! A simple message but the implication couldn’t have been more direct. Modernization is an important pursuit but if reducing the overall TCO is neglected, the appeal of NonStop to any enterprise may diminish faster than the evening’s first adult beverage. Modernization programs call for innovative approaches to be taken, driven by the need for greater integration of NonStop applications within todays hybrid IT and NTI again demonstrates leadership in this regard. Watch for more news from us as we get deeper into the holiday season.
If you were hesitant in stopping by our table to hear more about the success of NTI with our DRNet® product portfolio, then reach out to us by phone or email. We would be only too happy to field any questions you may have. Modernization? We have that covered. And yes, ask us about how we Save Time! Save Money! Save NonStop!
