A Note from Connect Leadership

Greetings, HPE Community Members!

Happy 2023 Connect Community members. As the new President of Connect, I wanted to extend my thanks to Marty Edelman, who you have been reading his ‘Note from the Connect Leadership’ in the magazine for the last few years. He’s done a fabulous job, especially during one of the toughest times that all of us will never forget.

I hope that I can continue the legacy of all of our previous Presidents and have the opportunity to bring a new flavour to our communications.

You may be interested to hear that I am not from a NonStop background!

By way of introduction, I’ve been a customer of HPE throughout my entire IT career, which currently spans over 25 years. It first started in the late 90’s when I was building Compaq servers to house Lotus CC:mail and Lotus Notes for a global investment bank; that was just before Compaq merged with Hewlett Packard in 2002!

However, I really became a fan of HPE in my latest company, where I had been working until recently, for the last 10 years. I was introduced to their world of StorageWorks, MSA’s, StoreOnce D2D Backups, and finally, their merger with 3PAR brought a whole new world of storage arrays and multi-disk tiering to my repertoire!

Joining me on the board again this year are Tony Ioele, Managing Partner at ARI Technology Advisors, Navid Khodayari, President of Idelji Corp. (a past President of Connect), and new to the board, Ryan Colbert, CIO of Morgan and Morgan. I would also like to extend our thanks to Susan Ashkenas, Director for HPE, who has stepped down as our HPE Liaison officer. We therefore currently have the pleasure of Jeff Kyle, VP & GM, HPC/AI – Data Solutions, as our Interim HPE Liaison officer. Welcome, to our new board members.

We have already started 2023 on a high, following the success of the NonStop TBC in October last year, we are already well into the planning for our event which will be in Denver this year, and I hear that people are already booking their accommodation, which is great news!

It is time to take advantage of the HPE Discover in Las Vegas Earlybird registration for the HPE flagship event on 20-22nd June. Also, please find information on the British Isles Tandem User Group with their annual e-BITUG event 15-17 May 2023 in Edinburgh. We will keep you updated on all Connect regional Chapter events here.

Not being from the NonStop community, I took the opportunity in December to attend the Little SIG in London to a) get better acquainted with our community and b) learn some interesting facts. It turned out to be a very informative session.

  • The YE for HPE NonStop ended on a high note, especially for the German market.
  • Greenlake as a Service still remains a focus area for HPE, despite low uptake.
  • Many non-FS companies are looking to rationalise, and the reduction on the need for DC’s is clear, so NonStop AAS has proven successful.
  • Not only will you know about PCI DSS v4 but are you up to speed on the EU DoRA (The Digital Operational Resilience Act)?
  • Collaboration with large public Cloud vendors is coming to a partner near you soon!

As always, you can join the conversations in our Slack workspace. Please enjoy this issue of The Connection, and we hope to see you all soon!
