NTI: Movement, Enablement, Integration – the Modernization Story continues unabated

Conferences, symposiums and events dominated the calendars of the Nonstop community. As a global community that it focused on all things Nonstop, it’s hard to avoid one gathering or another wherever you happen to be – from Sydney, to Mexico City, to London and New York and yes, to Munich and Dallas. These last two happening even as we prepare this article. What’s inescapable is that wherever these events take place, the Nonstop community finds a way to participate and it’s this participation that is central to the development of Nonstop and its role in modern, hybrid IT.

It’s still very fresh in our memories when we think of the recent regional major attraction in Munich being E-GTUG, the European Nonstop Symposium, 2026. With attendance of 150 and, at times, appearing much larger especially at social gatherings (as they tend to do each time such networking opportunities arise, the combination of Nonstop executives and senior managers together with a liberal scattering of Nonstop customers made the symposium among the best attended in recent times.

“NTI had an incredible time at N2TUG this year,” said Cody Newton, NTI CEO. “From engaging conversations to insightful sessions, it was a fantastic opportunity for our team to connect with industry peers. Events like N2TUG remind us of how valuable collaboration and the Nonstop community are. A big thanks to Bill Honaker for his efforts in putting this together – we’re already looking forward to the next one!”

Congratulations to NTI’s end of event gift-winner, FIS’s own Scott Randall.

Just recently, Cody Newton was featured on the cover of The Connection. In the article that followed, he emphasized the value NTI places on events where they play a central role in customer engagement, noting how it “is a significant and intentional part of my role — and one I value greatly. While I am responsible for overall strategy and company direction, I remain closely involved in key customer relationships and major commercial discussions.” Nowhere else can this engagement occur, at scale, outside of these conferences. We greatly appreciate the work of the Connect team in making these events happen as we know this takes considerable effort on their part to ensure a successful event. Direct engagement provides clarity on product direction, pricing models, competitive positioning, and emerging requirements. In our industry, trust and continuity matter — and that connection is central to how I lead.

Strategically, our focus remains modernization without disruption — helping customers transition from legacy environments such as GoldenGate or RDF into high-performance, lower-risk architectures built around DRNet®/Core and our broader portfolio. Modernization has led to us embracing support for Kafka through with our product, DRNet®/Kafka powered by uLInga, that provides Nonstop customers with a simple, onboarded (Guardian-based), data streaming platform requiring no separate external Kafka server. Less “hops” improves reliability as it does lessen latency.

Together, NTI and Infrasoft can now deliver the best of both worlds-tight integration between the core capabilities of DRNet® on HPE NonStop systems and the world of Kafka,” said Cody Newton. A key strategic move for NTI given that with Kafka, a relationship with Infrasoft emerged with Infrasoft now contributing as a major participant in the NTI partner ecosystem. Kafka was a key turning point in our modernization strategy as it involved yet further support for our Nonstop modernization initiative.

This partnership with Infrasoft has now led to the companies jointly announcing their first steps towards fully integrated AI support. “We are now expanding into AI enablement within the Nonstop ecosystem through solutions such as uLinga Nexus — delivered and supported by NTI — which enhances Nonstop accessibility from AI clients and modern protocols,” said Cody Newton.

Expanding beyond simply moving data, this enablement provides a horizontal layer where AI, through agency, can access any number of Nonstop subsystems including exposing of existing Pathway, Guardian IPC, or TCP/IP-based Nonstop applications as modern REST APIs, enabling integration with AI platforms, mobile apps, and cloud services without modifying application code.

At E-GTUG we heard from Casey Taylor how AI is the “biggest infrastructure build-out since the railroads.” The Nonstop community was then given further insights into the role embracing AI will play in terms of ensuring greater participation in a hybrid IT enterprise. According to Andrew Price, Infrasoft Director Business Operations,

The question is no longer whether AI belongs in these environments. It is how to enable it without compromising the very qualities that made Nonstop the platform of choice in the first place.”

As interest in AI grows, the question of where Nonstop will likely play a role is clearly articulated by Andrew Price, “This is where the Nonstop platform is uniquely well positioned. The workloads that have lived on Nonstop for decades – payments, switching, fraud detection, settlement, logistics and critical public infrastructure – are exactly the workloads where AI can now deliver immediate business value. These are environments rich in real-time context, transactional history and proven business rules.

Already, AI knowledge is expanding within NTI. Recent commentary coming from NTI CTO, Alphonse Hoge, is one example of the impact AI is having on the NTI team.

I am not a programmer but an architect; spec-driven development is now a given. Using Claude AI, I created five programs to where the future livelihoods is past being threatened by AI; they are already dead!

Coming into an age where it’s becoming less about porting an application from one platform to another and more about building new applications from scratch, it is the knowledgeable spec writers – those who can intelligently interact with AI – who will play a more dominant role.

The modernization story continues to unfold. Whether it is driven by the desire to tap human resources, recent college graduates arriving in the industry fresh with skills in new languages frameworks and tools or the need for greater business integration, data plays a central role. NTI has always been data-focused where, moving and now enabling of data, have led to building new capabilities on top of our fundamental data replication business.

The success NTI is seeing today is reinforcing decisions taken a number of years ago and if you missed this evolution, then perhaps you will want to hear more from NTI when next a regional or local gathering of the Nonstop community is planned. Almost certainly, you will see and hear us even as we look forward to engaging with you. We will be hard to miss. • NTI provides support from direct sales and support teams complemented with support of major global partners and tools and utilities together with a growing ecosystem of partners and consultants.

To help better support our global customer base our expertise spans all major NonStop Server-based applications, yet DRNet® remains application independent so changing to a different database or application does not require changes to DRNet®. We are proud to have been a part of the Tandem / Compaq / HPE community since 1985 and an Alliance / Technology partner since 1992. Today, NTI is a Silver participant as a HPE Technology Partner.
