Modernization continues to be an important talking point among Nonstop community members. IT professionals may not be able to recall exactly when this topic was elevated to become the most important criteria for product selection, but history reflects such a reality. Be it hardware, software, networks or simply supporting customer engagement, everyone is drawn into the conversation over whether a chosen product offering delivers an anticipated modern approach that meets the stated business requirement. Modernization of itself isn’t of much use unless it is an integral part of a product offering and contributes to ease of deployment and ease of maintenance and, in so doing, simplifies any future integration opportunities within a hybrid IT environment.
Frameworks don’t quite fare as well as modernization. Every vendor claims to have a framework. Rarely appearing in any product highlight reel, they underpin modern products core business logic. Commonly viewed as a way to eliminate repetitive, essentially boilerplate code, they help accelerate the delivery of modern products. For many within the Nonstop development community, Kern’s Kernel was one well-known framework on which complex products such as SNAX/CDF were built. However, this rise to prominence of frameworks coincides with the need to lay a sound foundation the deeper we dive into AI.
Strategically, NTI’s focus remains on modernization coupled with a low-risk, non-disruptive, evolution of NTI’s own DRNet® core subsystem. In so doing, what we have witnessed firsthand has been the Nonstop customers’ desire for a strong, stable and secure foundation. Frameworks offer such a foundation and built on anything less may not stand the test of time. The journey to delivering a supportive framework for AI engagement started much earlier.
To this end, NTI has positioned DRNet® as a core Nonstop subsystem, alongside NS SQL, TS/MP (Pathway), SCF, TMF, EMS and more, capable of readily bringing new products to market. Also noteworthy is how the DRNet® product portfolio “plays well with others” partner products in a way that’s seamless integration with new technologies becomes possible. This is achieved through DRNet® support for industry standard APIs and their supporting services.
The DRNet® product portfolio leverages the ability of DRNet® to replicate data. “We move the data that moves your business” has become our tag line and deservedly so; it’s what NTI has relied upon, for more than four decades, in delivering data movement for some of HPE’s biggest enterprises. Based on industry-standard principles of Change Data Capture (CDC) the replication of data has provided a fundamental service ensuring business continuity. More than simply replicating data, today DRNet® is proving to be a critical core subsystem anchoring the delivery, as well as providing the access, for data wherever it’s needed.
With modernization being seen as IT industry’s primary driving force, this has led to DRNet® continuing support for Data Movement (for business continuity, integration and distribution), but also addressing Data Migration (for current GoldenGate customers), Data Amalgamation (for assimilation by external processes and databases), and yes, most recently addressing Data Enablement (for AI access).
The DRNet® product portfolio is anchored on three key elements, each one addressing the needs of Nonstop customers. With DRNet®/Core active-active resilience is provided to better ensure business continuity. With DRNet®/Open and DRNet®/Evolve cloud-aligned hybrid environments are supported, whether it’s traditional databases such as Oracle, DB2 via JDBC or as are time-series databases and processes such as Splunk, ELK and, more recently, Prometheus all via JSON.
Open? Think of DRNet®/Open as the key to better integration of Nonstop data with that held within adjacent databases. Given this, DRNet®/Open is available as an optional extension to DRNet®/Core.
Evolve? Think of DRNet®/Evolve as an elevation of DRNet® capabilities as it enhances the DRNet® product portfolio to better meet the needs of Nonstop customers delivering Nonstop data beyond the immediate orbit of Nonstop. As such, DRNet®/Evolve is being delivered today as an optional extension of the DRNet®/Core.
Combined? All three DRNet® products represent a non-intrusive extension that broadens data delivery options, enhancing, not only NTI’s modernization journey but the journeys of all Nonstop customers today as they seek an expanded participation for Nonstop systems in enterprise Hybrid IT. And nothing encourages such expansion more than the imminent arrival of AI, where Chatbot clients become the go-to vehicle for dialogues with Nonstop core subsystems including DRNet®.
