NonStop user events
As this new edition of the Connect magazine is published one of our best user events of the year for the NonStop community just kicked off and that is eBITUG 2025, the European NonStop Symposium in Dublin from June 3rd to June 5th. The agenda shows how rich in contents this event is, from the highly expected launch of a new platform, the ongoing roadmap, the most advanced cybersecurity topics, modernization, cloud, observability, AI, performance, as-a-Service and unified manageability, what an amazing set of topics covered by subject matter experts and delivered all packed in a few days for you. You can expect to return to the office with very informative and immediately applicable insights to make the best out of your NonStop systems and plan for the future. If you have not had a chance to join such events yet I can’t stress enough how valuable this is for you and your organization. Maybe one of the unstated facts is that attending those events and being able to discuss with partners, product owners and other customers is really what makes a difference when it comes to making the decision to purchase or upgrade to new hardware or software. In these days of constant flow of communication, we are submerged with too much information and maybe we’re not ready to buy a new software product just based on a datasheet or product announcement but need to confront ideas, hear other experiences and feel the texture of the fabric just like we’re not ready to buy a new car online just yet. Very often, even if a product provides unique and advanced capabilities on paper, I have noticed that this is not enough to convince.
And rightfully so, because our customers need to know a lot more than just the technical features of a product. Not because they do not trust the Nonstop brand, I believe we have one of the most trusted platform in the industry, but because customers know that all products are not equal not just in their features set but in many other aspects such as how complex is it to setup and maintain, do I need to invest in training or is the product automated enough that it won’t require as much personnel. Is this product more of a trend that may pass in a few years, or does it have real business value immediately applicable to address my current pain points? How scalable the product really is, not just in performance but also in deployment, geographically. How committed the company is to the product. The industry is full of products that made a lot of promises but have fallen short of wider adoption because they had a weak spot when it comes to the total customer experience. Blockchain comes to my mind as a particularly strong example of a very elegant technology, with presumably good use cases identified, yet the infrastructure and regulations requirements were an immense obstacle to a wider adoption. There are plenty of other examples of varying scales.
How do we ensure we make the right choices? Attending events such as eBITUG is a good start. It starts with being able to meet our leadership team who will highlight our product commitments. Then discuss with the product experts and get a sense if the product has real fundamental values behind the external perception and whether it is ready for prime time. How does it integrate with other products. Then verify if it has indeed solved the pain points the way you and other customers expect it to be solved by exchanging with peers. As I’m summarizing the benefits here, it makes the case that attending those user group events is more than optional, it is the best way to make the right, educated, documented and safe decisions for your company.
If you are not attending eBITUG, no worries, plenty more events this year. In a few weeks already Nonstop will again be present at the wider HPE Discover 2025 event, June 23-26 in Las Vegas. Be prepared to be amazed there with Nonstop highlighted in AI use cases such as Smart Manufacturing and Fraud detection, and more. And of course, our NonStop TBC 2025 event, September 15-18 The Woodlands, Texas.
On the announcement side, following the RVU announced in this column in the previous edition, the following product announcement was released on May 2nd.
Announcing SQL/MX 3.9.1 and Nonstop SQL unified manageability for Nonstop X platformsHPE Nonstop Enterprise Division (NED) is pleased to announce the general availability of Nonstop SQL/MX 3.9.1 and Nonstop SQL unified manageability for the HPE Integrity Nonstop X systems, HPE Virtualized Nonstop systems and HPE Virtualized Converged Nonstop systems, as of L25.02. Unified manageabilityNonstop SQL was introduced almost 40 years ago and continuously adapted through major changes in the industry such as ANSI standard for SQL, ODBC and JDBC standard APIs or de-facto standard such as Oracle DB. Several tools were introduced over the years to manage the different architectures of Nonstop SQL but today, leveraging our partnership with XYPRO, we’re pleased to announce the introduction of SQLXPress as the standard, built-in, and all-in-one solution to manage Nonstop SQL, starting from L25.02. SQLXPress can be used for the prior generation of Nonstop SQL (SQL/MP) as well as the new generation (SQL/MX) including on-platform and off-platform applications accessing Nonstop SQL. SQLXPress also brings vital security features such as Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Role Based Access Control (RBAC), and more, as part of the standard offering. And finally, SQLXPress provides an intuitive graphical interface for easy onboarding of users new to the platform. Streamlined security and complianceWith the multiplication of security breaches and compliance requirements it is essential for customers to have the right arsenal of security features readily available, integrated closely into their everyday use manageability tools and providing the right level of automation for tedious tasks such as setting ACLs (Access Control List) on thousands of objects or tasks to secure. As of L25.02 the following security features are available for both SQL/MP and SQL/MX:
The complete set of security features allows customers to achieve their goals for zero trust security. SQL/MX 3.9.1
